Resumiendo, Diccionario de nombres propios es un libro que apenas me ha gustado. Una protagonista fuera de lo normal, con una prosa por parte del autora también particular. Un ritmo irregular que no logró engancharme. Un final inesperado y precipitado.

Awful. Bad writing. Laughable characters. Plot flat as The Netherlands. Saving grace: mercifully short (and even so, 150 pages too long).

A book about a fascinating, intelligent, beautiful child with a hard-to-pronounce name. A child who is gifted and special and wise beyond her years, a child who doesn’t mix well with the run-of-the-mill kids, who is then judged because she dares to be better than everyone else.

Yeah, it kind of annoyed me at first. But I flipped a 180 on my opinion of the book about halfway through, after she went to ballet school. The book devoured me after that. I loved it. I loved how she changed. I loved how she recovered from anorexia. The continuation of her story was lightning-fast, the ending striking like a whip with an attempted suicide and true love finding her suddenly, and saving her from her death.

The ending may have been a bit too quick. But the bulk of the story was about the main character’s childhood. So I guess once that was over, the author didn’t know quite what to do.

Either way, I liked this book. It grew on me.
