Mandatory 'boldfaced' introductory heading to show much this book rocked!

And rock it did, yessirree!

This book got me out of a bad reading slump, so thank you, and for that: aaaaaaall of the stars for you!

Dead of Night has everything: a kickass heroine who is tough and sweet, a pervy yet lovely old vampire, awesome sidekicks and friends, and hellish (and domestic) enemies that will make you squeal with glee when they're taken down. And the bow-chicka-bow-wow bits are refreshingly original. ;)

Not to mention this book has my new favorite badass in-your-face, ha!-take-that line: Hidden for your reading pleasure, so as not to spoil anything.
SpoilerWhen Callie's (aka the FMC's) horrid brother Scott tries to put Callie in her place, and force her to act like a good little angel, Callie fires back with:
"I traded my halo for motherfucking crown."

Which made me think of a song called 'A Little Wicked' that has a line that goes:
"No one calls you honey when you're sitting on a throne."

And thus: glee-squeals! You go, girl!

Read this book, people. It rocked!

I have so many unanswered questions, so on to the next book I go!

Callie is a powerful witch, the only one in her estranged family. One day her sister begs her to come to her niece’s birthday party, a niece she’s never met. And because she misses her sister dearly she decides to do some recon to see if she can do it, emotionally speaking. As soon as she spots her brother though, her feet take her to the nearest bar where she meet Lucas. An age-old vampire.

Lucas is curious about Callie because her power rivals his own, and she keeps surprising him at every turn. They’re insanely attracted to each other and it doesn’t take too long for them to fall into bed together.

Meanwhile a big bad is killing witches, looking for “the half-breed”. But a half breed of what? Is it Callie? Why does the demon want this person dead?

This is the first book I’ve read by this author and I did really enjoy it. A fairly predictable storyline for me as it’s faintly reminiscent of another series I’ve read. Not quite as much smut as I expected either - after the first couple of sex scenes you don’t get anything other than a mention after the fact for the rest of the book.

An enjoyable read, felt like a quick one too. I’m intrigued to find out the answers to all of the unanswered questions.

Quick, easy, and inviting

I really enjoyed how relatable the characters are and how quick the read was. I love extremely in depth characters while I also truly enjoy books I can gobble up easily also. This book does not disappoint. I waited to write this review after I read the second in the series just in case but it continues to hold my attention.

This book starts off with a bang. We meet a witch who is out demon hunting alone. She may not be brilliant, but she is definitely talented. We don’t know her name yet.

Calista also runs a bookstore in town with her friend Kristy. She has seemed to have some family issues that aren’t expanded on yet. She gets into an intriguing fight at a bar and meets some vampire, but of course, Lucas is the one who sets off her radar. She is one heck of a heroine, though, and very strong and confident in her powers. She gets a strange vision causing an overreaction in a public place. I love that she is paranormal but also understands being human. She definitely has a lapse in judgment inviting a vampire into her home. But Lucas is unlike the others and very old. She also seems to be intriguing to him.

Lucas and her encounters are steamy hot, and, of course, riddled with danger. This book gets more interesting as the hunter beacons the hunted. We do get some of her back story as she has a confrontation in the book. Of course, our Heroine is breaking all the rules. This story is filled with magic and steamy romance plus lots of adventure. They do resolve one issue, but there always seems to be another to deal with.
I look forward to reading more in this series.

I do love that this story was addicting to read.
Callie is strong, intelligent, and a trouble magnet, but she does everything with her whole heart. Lucas is old, rich, and constantly in the mood, making for many steamy scenes. Their relationship is forbidden, but they do it anyway, which makes this witch vampire romance so much more fun. I love Callie”s familiars. They have such a fantastic representation in this book. The author did an excellent job weaving a thrilling paranormal romance. The author did a great job including the supernatural aspects of the story and making it enjoyable. I truly enjoy learning more about paranormals in this book, from demons to witches and even very old vampires.

Series Review of Books 1-3 on my YouTube here: https://youtu.be/IT2zWfOJ-R4 (available 2nd Nov 2021)

If you're hesitating to read this book / series, don't! Witches, Vamps, Demons, Familiars, Demon Cats, Ley Lines, warfare, murder, intrigue... it has it ALL!

Finally a series with a Witch and a Vamp where the girl isn't weak against the 'very old' vamp, she holds her own, and he's not a jerk! Love these two! Plus the supporting cast of characters around them are exceptionally well written and the world building is immersive and intriguing.
