Jude and Nikolai

This dynamic pair definitely gave their road to romance a bumpy ride as Jude fought against Nikolai in the beginning. Being self-sufficient and scared to let anyone in, Jude tried his best to get rid of Nik around every corner. Nik however fought back just as hard to ensure Jude was safe and secure as he tried to break down his walls. A steamy romance perfect for the colder nights.

I actually really really enjoyed this. Not much to find fault with. I loved Jude'd character and thought he was so sweet and his backstory was quite emotive. Nikolai was great and his family was amazing. More important than anything, their relationship development felt real and was well-done. Overall a really good read!

Preface: In no way am I diminishing Jude's feelings, experiences or mental health struggles.

This is basically word vomit on my thoughts on the book, mainly the last quarter.

It felt very repetitive. His reactions every time to them getting close was to think "I'm just a job. He doesn't care. I'm not good enough. etc.". People struggle with this daily but in a piece of fiction, it became repetitive, boring and unrelatable.

Why would he be just a job when Nik personally cleaned him of blood, took Jude with him to the hospital when Maks was sick, brought him round for dinner with his family, called him beautiful in a language he didn't understand and had no intention to tell him, was clearly invested in making sure he was okay and understood he did not care about his quirks and was compassionate? That wasn't a "Oh I can't see what is right in front of me; I can't accept someone actually cares about me because I've been left so many times in my life" reaction. It was a writing mistake. A way to create conflict and tension inorganically that did not work or flow.

Shouldn't it have been clear after a few weeks that Jude and Cliff were not in a relationship? Because Nik was with Jude 24/7 and Jude went to Cliff's all of one time. Literally no other interaction between the two in the book. If he really was in a relationship or servicing him for a job, you'd think it would be somewhat frequent, at least once a month or something.

Mike was 100% completely okay with his employee sleeping with a client and his only response when he found out was "tell him you love him"? Okay, no notes.

Oh the convenient ramblings about love and missed chances by an old man at just the right time when there had previously been no on-page interactions between the two.

The whole rushing to get to him trope did not work. I understand the urge, the need to see the one you love, especially after being apart for a while. But it plays so cliché.

I loved the start of this novel. But something happened in the middle making these characters do a 180. I feel like the balance was off. The first half they were practically enemies. I liked their conflict but I didn’t like how they got together. Jude started to become annoying. the 2nd part was just overly sweet. I’m not explaining this right. It wasn’t believable.

保镖和client之间的故事。这本就是我喜欢的那种不停的back and forth,极限拉扯,哪怕是到最后80%,我以为又要开始老套的thanks giving day就come out环节了,却又来了一次heart break。

I made 110 highlights. If I had read this in one sitting, I would've given it 5 stars. For most readers, if you like bodyguard romance, this is probably going to be a 5-star read.
