A rather disappointing ending, but a good introduction to the gothic for younger readers!

I really enjoyed this book! After reading an 11 book series it was nice to read a short yet interesting story! Perfect Halloween/gothic style story line. I will definitely be reading this book again!

Filled with emotional grief, ghastly ghosts and bone-chilling magic, this short and sweet novel by Juno Dawson, for me, was a diamond in the rough. I loved almost everything this story had to offer, especially the heartbreak of the storyline juxtaposed by the beautiful writing of June Dawson. Honestly, her books never cease to amaze me; it seems every book she writes is quickly added to my list of favourites! My only complaint about this novel was the length! At a mere 140 pages, I felt much was left to be desired by readers, especially in terms of character depth and backstory, I needed more from these characters and this interesting storyline. Definitely, a recommended read for anyone looking for a spooky but fast-paced book to tear through...

It was a short read, quite simple and quite cliche. It's good that books are being designed to be more easily read by people who might naturally find it hard - that element of the book should be mimicked more often. Since the book is trying to appeal to an audience that might not read a lot, and may therefore be unfamiliar with certain tropes it may not come across as so obvious and cliche to the intended audience. As a seasoned reader, I knew exactly where this was going from page one, and it didn't deviate from a single one of my predictions ever.

I don’t know why I didn’t like it, maybe it was just too close for me.

Me and my boyfriend have been together 7 years and we are always seen as a pair so their relationship in this was a lot like ours. I think that made it too unsettling for me.

It’s a decent book and lots of people will like it. It’s well written and has good illustrations it’s just not for me!

Well this book is just so darn cute ha good! The story is gothic and really well written, it was easy to see it play out in my head and would quite frankly make a great horror movie. 😎👍🏼
The plus with this book is that it’s made to be read by people either struggling with reading or just in the worst reading slump or just getting in to reading. The lettering is great, the paper thick so that there’s no bleeding through and it’s not too long!
It also helps that the story is really, really good and the artwork is gorgeous, gloomy and so perfect!!
