1. The narrator of this MAKES the story worth it. She’s incredibly talented
2. This book is VERY graphic at times and very traumatizing as well so be warned. I was audibly gasping and very uncomfortable many times.
3. There is toooooo much pretty imagery and description which is why this is 32ish hours long. Definitely could have been shorter. There’s also new plot line after new plot line introduced which I feel that it crammed a lot into one book.
4.  The ending just is kinda like “yay we love each other”. I was looking at the minutes left like this is it?? Such a mild ending to a GIANT book.
Overall it’s not bad. It’s not amazing in my opinion, but I did enjoy Claire, Jaime, and many of the other side characters. I also really enjoyed the setting and historical pieces. But the graphic parts, some of the crazy plot lines, and the ending brought it down for me.

I've watched the show for Outlander on Starz before, but this was my first time reading the book.
I was surprised how true to the plot the tv show stayed.
A few characters are different, either in appearance, or not appearing at all.

I think my favorite difference was in Claire. It always bothered me in the show how rediculously modern she was, for all she's supposed to be intelligent. Many of the moments in the show that made me roll my eyes because "why would she be that stupid" never even happen in the book.

The chapters near the end with Captain Randall were too much for me and I did skim through them. I was glad to have some warning from the show on how bad it could be.

Over all I loved the book and look forward to recommending it to friends. It was a tad long and I found myself dragging through the last 200 pages. Still, I look forward to reading the next one.

This book was so exciting and interesting to read. I could not put it down while I was reading, and even though the book was ~600 pages long, it felt like it was such a quick read because it was so captivating. It brought up a lot of complex emotions which I really appreciated (although maybe I felt them more deeply at this time in my life than I would have if I were in a different place emotionally/romantically). Almost every character had aspects to them that felt so deep, complicated, and human. My only issue with this story (and I’m not sure if issue is the right word) is that it felt like any characters who were not hetero were more strongly associated with negative (or outright evil) personality traits. I think this is most likely due to the historical time period and character lens of the story, but it was something that stuck out to me towards the end of the book in a way I didn’t like. There were some very violent and emotional scenes that were difficult to read, but I also think that these moments added to how realistic and complicated the story felt. Overall, I really loved this book. I laughed out loud while reading, cried so many times, and was completely swept away by the characters and their world.
