My official rating is 3.75.
This book was really fun. I'm not sure why people don't like this... (please take in mind I've only read the first book), but I do get it as the pacing was kinda all over the places in some parts of the book.
Ava was your run of the mill goody two shoes loveable character, and I liked how people seemed to flock to her. Her chemistry with Alex was like the typical grumpy x sunshine troupe, and while I usually dislike this troupe, it worked well with this couple.
I liked how Huang explained Alex's backstory, the family life, and the aftermath, which turned him into a grumpy person. Whereas it contrasted with Ava, who became a very happy person despite her backstory (please bear with me here I'm typing on my phone and there's no way to block spoiler text).
The romance kinda built up little by little, but when it was here, it appeared like a bang! The sudden change in attitude (specifically Alex's attitude in relationships) is what caught me off guard... I didn't hate it, but it seemed like it changed out of nowhere.
This is where I assume the pacing issue takes place. It starts off with the sudden change in attitude, then the incident happened (the girls that get it, GET IT, and the girls that don't, DON'T) and I became so confused. How does one just teleport into a situation like that? Like I get they explained it a bit later, but I would've rather had an entire scene leading up to it... did an editor cut that scene? Because if so, shame.
BUT I DIGRESS! This was still a very fun series and kept me engaged enough to continue the story.
P.S. I've heard people think Alex didn't grovel enough, but Ava had this man walking like a dog for over a year.... A YEAR! There's only so long you can resist all the things he did for her and if I was Ava, I would've forgiven him much earlier.

I couldn't put the book down around the last 10 chapters... I had to warm up to the story first. It was easy to like Ava but it took me a minute to get used to Alex, but once I got to know them I liked them. Yes, even hard headed Alex. The plot was good and the smutty parts throughout too (〃ω〃)
Do I recommend reading? Yes!
