This book was an insane insight into Malala's fight against terrorism for the right of female education. Her determination, strength and commitment to stand up for her beliefs is absolutely inspiring.
Everyone should read this book.

Wow.

This book was eyeopening for sure. Lots of emotions. Sadness for the lack of education in the world, especially for girls. Disappointment in my country and my government for their treatment of Pakistan and the middle east. Empowered by this brave young woman and the strength she showed in terrible, terrible situations and adversity of the highest degree.

It's books like these, even with all the tragedy in the world, that make me feel positive about the good forces in the world.

Malala is an amazing girl. This book gives us a lot of history of Pakistan, up to when it was written - the politics and geopolitics, as well as the different regimes and what it was like to live under those. I was expecting it to be more of Malala's story and it really wasn't. She's telling the story, it is written in a young voice, but many (most?) of the stories aren't her experiences but that of her country and her family. The last section focused on her assassination attempt and her life afterward, which I found very fascinating. It's a good read, not what I expected but worthwhile.

Writing a review for this a few weeks after I finished the book, so I would have time to contemplate all the aspects.

While the actual flow of the book in some areas feels repetitive and a bit random, the content of this book overshadows any issues I had with those areas.

Malala says she wants to be remembered for more than than just the girl who got shot by the Taliban. Unfortunately, coming into this story, that is exactly as I knew her first. I was young when the events in the Middle East were happening and privileged enough to tune the world issues out for the time being. Reading this book and other books of this time period, further made me realize how privileged I actually was growing up. The trials and threats that Malala, her family and community faced are extraordinary, terrible. Kids growing up should not have to face such things anywhere in the world.

Her message rings loud and true. Her story, the amount of research and time to portray the timeline of events accurately to write this book is a feat unto itself. I was immediately thrown into the world she illustrates. I have had this book on my shelf for a while & finally picked it up due to all of the unrest in Afghanistan with the US Military leaving in August. I wanted to hear HER story of the occupation of the US and the viewpoint of the Taliban and how they slowly infiltrated their ideologies and justification of religion onto the people.

Everyone should have equal rights to do whatever they please. It is about choices. Humans want the opportunities to do as they please, even if they do not choose to take them, it should still be their choice. I Am Malala, conveys the need for these freedoms, that so many of us take for granted every second, of everyday.

This book is heartbreaking and profound and all my thoughts and prayers to those who have endured, who were lost, for those who feel trapped and cannot be refugees, for those who did manage to get out and become refugees, and the years to come as the Middle East shifts again.

Highly recommend this book.
