this was such an absurdly written book and so hard-hitting in all that comedy, what the hell šš?
i must admit, this whole mysterious narrator bit really motivated me to the end, and all of lessā crazy adventures in between just entertained me so much. deeply flawed character with a persona described as very innocent & youthful even when nearing 50ā¦ā¦the narrator had such a way with words that it was clear how much they adored every single bit of arthur less, our protagonist, that you could imagine.
and i adored the reveal at the end, soā¦.slight boost in rating š

If I had to describe this book in a single blurb, it would be this: Less is a better-written Eat, Pray, Love that explores the mid-life crisis of a heartbroken gay man who struggles to grapple with his age and relative mediocrity as a writer.
This book was sold to me as exploring a ānew gay identity,ā and I was thoroughly disappointed to find Iād be reading a main character who was a white cis middle-aged gay man with enough financial security to travel the world. While I understand gay identity hasnāt had very much time to explore life after 50 due to the AIDS crisis, this is the kind of queer demographic we already see in media. There is nothing new about the story of Arthur Less.
Moderate: Alcoholism and Infidelity
Minor: Ableism, Adult/minor relationship, Body shaming, Cursing, Fatphobia, Panic attacks/disorders, Suicidal thoughts, Toxic relationship, and Grief
