Down the Drain by Julia Fox

challenging dark reflective sad fast-paced

julia's life is quite literally unfathomable. the idea that she's alive today after all of this astounds me. and for her to be reduced to nothing more than trendsetter hardly encompasses who she is as a person and creative force. it's genuinely hard to believe all of this could be true and for her to be so well adjusted now; especially unbelievable that she remembers so many of these convos and dialogues with this much clarity after that many narcotics. i have no doubt that she's filled in the gaps with approximations and paraphrasing—none of which i hold against her. her story is fraught from the start with drugs, domestic violence, sexual exploitation, entrapment, manic depressive spirals, and death. i'd advise any reader to read acomprehensive trigger warning list before going into this one.

Dry, airy, and childlike. Rushed writing. It’s hard to keep track of who is who because of the lack of details. I’m glad to have read it, because I love her so much. I just don’t think writing is her strongest skill.
I want to squeeze her for all that she has gone through. She seems like a really sweet person, and mom.
“I’m everywhere I’m so Julia.”

I didn’t know who Julia Fox was before reading this audiobook, but the cover couldn’t help but call out to me on Libby, so I decided to borrow it.

Julia’s life story is a whirlwind and she really has been through a lot, I can’t help but feel admiration for her strength and resilience despite heart break after heartbreak and addiction after addiction. I hope life’s treating her better now.

Very entertaining book. Julia Fox has lived a thousand lives. Some of the things she did was just bat shit crazy... so creds to her for being so honest about it. She's just so Julia . She managed to adapt to so many weird situations and establish herself as a force to be reckoned with.

I felt so bad for Julia while reading about her self destructive patterns, and also the amount of people who took advantage of her. I can't believe she's still standing. The amount of loss she has experienced seems unbearable. She is truly inspiring when it comes to building a name for herself despite all the setbacks.

This book provided an inside perspective on how struggling with drug addiction can look. I learned a lot. When drugs becomes rutine, a necessity for handling stress or abstinences, or the only way keep social relationships (especially romantic ones), it's easy to rely on it.

I'd say it becomes gradually more and more feministic as Julia keeps having romantic relationships with controlling men and she realizes her worth and need for independence. As she grows she doesn't want to feel trapped by men anymore, and she makes that very clear.

I also liked that she was so open about her parents struggling to be good parents.

The reason why I didn't rate it higher was because I couldn't keep up with all of the names, and sometimes I felt like the story repeated itself. When that's said, I can't really blame her for that, because that's exactly what she lived through. I mean, she did in fact repeat the same mistakes again and again irl, so obv, she wrote about it. It was just a lot.

Charli was right when she said “I’m everywhere I’m so Julia.” This woman has lived about 80 different lives and each one more insane than the next. I love seeing how far she has come in her life and really made a better life for herself. And I didn’t even know what she was famous for before reading this. I love you Julia!

Gosh, this book is heartbreaking. Her life has been tough and I am lost for words for how much she's lost and continues to loose.

Speechless.

P.s check the content warnings for this. It is a very graphic book.
