Quirky and clever, I enjoyed it. Reminded me of the Far Side.

Lily, the only person of color in this book, is replaced by a green horse zombie cow creature after her friend, Dash, and his family are in a stupor from eating purple potatoes. She then saves the day, of course.

Initial thoughts: enjoyed this starter to a new graphic novel series. It was weird and a bit creepy and I was here for it all. The GN itself is supposed to be a dip into the “horror” genre for younger readers and I definitely think it’s done a good job of that. There are some mysteries dropped in throughout the story that makes you want to pick up book 2 right away to find out if they’re solved. Still, there’s weirdness abound within the entire GN & it definitely adds to the “creepiness.” While my adrenaline wasn’t up & I wasn’t freaked out reading this one, a younger reader might feel some of those feelings reading through this. Like I said earlier, it seems like a gentle step into the “horror” genre. Fairgray did a wonderful job creating the world of Black Sand Beach & the characters to go with it. I really enjoyed reading through this one & am looking forward to book 2 to see if we can learn more about some of the unanswered questions within the storyline. Definitely a good one to pick up & for readers looking for a little creepiness and weirdness but not quite ready for anything extremely scary.

A fun and creepy follow up to the first book of this series. Wasn’t expecting the twist at the end and I’m excited to see where this series goes. So many more mysteries opened up from this second book. Again, still loving the illustrations, characters and overall vibe of this graphic novel / series. Can’t wait for book 3!

This was surprising great! Big plot improvement from the 1st volume, as it followed one plot line, but also connected to major parts of the previous volume in really interesting ways. Storytelling was good and left me freaked out, intrigued, happy, and more. You can tell a good story when the author has made you experience strong emotions. I need volume 3!

I borrowed the 1st and 2nd volumes from the library. I wasn't even considering the notion of actually buying the series, but this volume might have changed my mind.

Art style was interesting and suited the vibe of the story. It was pleasantly weird, creepy and whimsical, making me cringe, giggle and have my skin crawling at times. Definitely happy to see what happens in book 2.

Great artwork in this graphic novel and spooky stories, with smart kids and dumb adults.

Perfect amount of silliness to cut the spookiness. Not too much, not too little.
