This story is so weird and I liked it but my favorite part is at the end when it’s like every time a child is super nice to their parents the little mermaid gets one year off yr sentence

I saw a post on Tumblr about the real story of The Little Mermaid which is very different from the story I grew up with. Disney definitely changed a huge part of the story, though I can't say I didn't like this classic. It's been a long time since I've been wanting to read this because of the different turn of story but I have to say that I really expected more from it. I still liked it, though. It's just a bit too short and I really thought it would break my heart a lot, but it didn't. Not as much as I thought it would, anyway.

I may like this better than the Disney version. My daughter was offended at the real price she paid the witch though.

Going to goodreads to mark this as have read I realized at some point as a kid I had marked it 2 stars. Upon reread I think I was just upset about the ending, which is fair. Still I think that it deserves a higher rating. There is something truly ethereal about the way it’s written, and I find it hard not to like this story, despite the admittedly sad ending. There are a lot of things I think you could say about this story in terms of analysis, but I will simply say that if you haven’t you really should read it
