Wow!! I think this might be my favorite of the Hollows books. I love these characters. After nine books I have grown attached to this crazy ragtag group.

There is Rachel, she is a white witch sort of. Well, you have to read it because I don't do spoilers. She is so much fun. Even my husband really enjoys these books and Rachel. There aren't many books that I can say we both really enjoy. Then there is Ivy, one of Rachel's roommates/partners. She is a sexy living vampire. She is in love with Rachel, and would like a deeper relationship. Rachel loves Ivy but is not in love with her. Then there is one of my favorite characters Jenk's. Jenk's is a sarcastic, tough warrior. Did I mention that he is a 20 year old pixie? No, I forgot. Then there is Trent. Trent is an elf and he is Rachel's mortal enemy except I really don't believe that. I have felt the heat between him and Rachel since the first book. I cannot forget Al her demon advisor/teacher. I told you that she is sort of a white witch. In the last book there were two characters introduced. One was Pierce and I am on the fence about him but he figured strongly in this book. The other is Biz a gargoyle that is a teenager that has "adopted" Rachel and wants to be like a familiar to her. She isn't to sure about it. Add a new witch named Vivian and a few others.

Now, imagine going on a road trip from Cincinnati to California with Rachel, Jenk's, Ivy, and Trent. With stops in such notable places as St Louis. They are being chased by inept elf assassins that are after Trent and the witches coven that is after Rachel. Now let the fun start!! The first half of this book is pretty humorous and then it takes a serious turn. If you are a Rachel fan this is a must read book. You learn many things about Rachel and other characters from the other books like Newt.

Now if you'll excuse me I have another Rachel Morgan book to read. This series is gearing down and it is usually my fashion to go slow in this situation but I just need to follow through on what is going on with my "friends".

The best of the series by far, this I think was a turning point in the series. It was so exciting and the whole thing just kept you interested. After Kisten died I was wondering how this series was going to go, it wasn't looking so good but the last few books have totally turned the series around and now they just keep getting better and better and I keep wanting to read more. I can't wait until the next book comes out I'm salivating for more, and I have to wait three months. Sometimes I hate when I get so involved into a series that I read it all at once and then have to wait for the next book to come out. Rachel Morgan/Hollows Series is most definitely a series I can read over and over and over again.

This is by far the best book of the series to date. And I say that for many reasons, some of which I will get to in a moment, but I'd be a big liar, liar pants on fire if I didn't fess up to loving it mostly because of the amount of Trent there was in it. My enjoyment of any Hollows book is at least partially influenced by that factor, and in this one it was like all my Christmases came at once. Not only does he feature prominently, but the development of his character is absolutely huge. Even if he had to take a number of steps backwards before he could move forwards (The big goober) his progress as a character in his own right and also in how he is seen by other characters, was amazing.

The main plot centres around a road trip (from hell). Rachel needs to get to San Francisco for her brother's wedding, and Trent needs to get to Seattle. He remains, in typical Trent fashion, very tight-lipped about precisely why he needs to get there, and why he needs to go by road and not on his fancy jet, but since Quen won't let him travel without Rachel, and Quen can't go with him because of Ceri, Trent has to ask Rachel for help. I have to admit to getting all excited right from chapter one when Trent turns up on an unsuspecting Rachel in a bikini. You just knew it was going to mean big changes for these two from then on out!

Jenks and Ivy were along for the ride as well and were as wonderful as always. Jenks has plenty of great quote material and it was nice to see him getting on with things after the events of the last book. Ivy has also done some maturing. She has a very honest conversation with Rachel at one point which sort of came out of nowhere but it was a fascinating insight to Ivy's feelings and helped me understand her a lot more.

We also had a few scenes with Pierce. Honestly, I could take or leave his character and I didn't really feel like he added much. And Al! The cutest little demon on the block was there too and we learned more about him and the rest of demon kind too. Seriously it was like one revelation after another. Had Kim been saving them all up for this one book or what?

The whole book had excellent pacing. There was never a dull moment, really. The scenes at Rachel's trial were really well written- very tense and quite shocking as well! Especially what happened just before it began! And the last 30 or so pages were so good I had to read them twice! Obviously I can't say anything about it since it's at the end, but it was absolutely brilliant. It couldn't have been done better. Such amazing story-telling skills. I am flawed.

I have actually just finished reading this for the second time in preparation for A Perfect Blood, and it was just as much fun this time around. I cannot wait to see what happens next and just hope Rachel doesn't regress in any of her forward progress with Trent during the interim.

This series is getting better and better. I loved that the plot of this was a road trip. There was so much more world building added because of that. It was fun to learn more about the demons as well.

This is the 9th book in The Hollows series and picks up with Rachel heading to the west coast with Trent, Jenx, and Ivy to attend the Annual Witches Coven to try and get her shunning rescinded. Rachel is actually trying to make more responsible decisions and we continue to see how the changes in her affect the other characters: Jenx, Ivy, Al, and Trent. I’m always a little surprised at how invested I have become in a group of fictional characters and how their lives are turning out. I want a happy ending for Ivy and Rachel and I want Rachel to kick some serious ass.

Let’s just say that my only complaint with this book and the series itself…. Kim Harrison can’t write fast enough. Rachel finally comes into her full demon self and I want to know what happens next.

A complex and satisfying installment in the Hallows series. This is such a believable world Harrison has created with well developed charaters and interesting plot twists. It is also fast paced-the action in nonstop and almost exhausting. Bring on the next book!

Pale Demon, book number 9 in Kim Harrison’s Hollows series. This takes place about two months after the events of book 8, black magic sanction, and Rachel must attend the annual witches conference, where she will be receiving that pardon that Oliver promised her in the last book. Trent however doesn’t think so, and requests that Rachel let him tag along on her trip to the West Coast, as he has some business to attend to as well. Trent believes the coven will actually try to kill her en route to the meeting, and that having him along will keep them from doing so. Trent is in a bit of a mess as well, as Rachel witnesses when their meeting is interrupted by a couple of elf assassins sent by the Withons. The Withon’s have something Trent wants, and he doesn’t have very long to get it.

So, that is how the road trip begins, Rachel, Jenks and Trent, in her mom’s buick on the way to the west coast. They meet Ivy along the way, in St. Louis. A city that Rachel decides, she does not like. She discovers the terrifying power of elven magic, and the group leaves wreckage along the way. A terrifying ancient being is released from his cage, after 2000 years. The demons are not thrilled.

Unfortunately for Rachel, getting to San Francisco was only the beginning. Trent must be back in time from his elven quest to testify on her behalf at the meeting. Trent is convinced she will lose, and he has a back up plan for her just in case. Can she trust him?

It’s been hinted at, she’s been accused but…Is Rachel REALLY a demon?

There are some really exciting developments in this novel, mostly in how the characters see and interact with one another. There are of course the hilarious moments, the unexpected (seriously) and the moments that have your heart pounding. I love this series.
