Was already a bit weary of the book when the list of trigger warnings did not include car accidents/crashes when that's a huge plot of the storyline. Stopped reading due to a Harry Potter reference. May attempt to read this sometime in the future because I was very excited about it.

I am not ok nor will I ever be ok because this book has DESTROYED ME. It is a MASTERPIECE. I don’t think I’ve ever been so turned on and ready to cry in the span of the same chapter as many times as I was reading this book. It’s messy and emotional and REAL, and manages to handle things like grief, strained familial relationships, and finding new love in such a compassionate and beautiful way. It also did a few tropes I normally don’t love (second chance romance and a third act breakup) serious justice, because for once it felt like without the circumstances that made those things happen, Sloane and Dom wouldn’t have been the people they needed to be to build a strong, healthy love together. This book had impeccable spice, too, but it is so much more than that. J.L. Seegars is a new insta-buy author for me.

Loved every minute of this!!

I loved this story so much. The only thing I felt off about was the ending, it was a little bit rushed but I loved how they fell into place with one another again.
Sloane finally stood up to her nasty mother, is rocking at her job and allowed herself to be happy and love again.
Dom is the lucky man that has her love. He’s the kind of man we all deserve, someone who listens, cares, and loves the way she deserves it. He is everything, she is everything and they are more than love and happiness together.
I’m so so happy I read this book and I can’t wait to read more in this series

Twelve years ago, Dominic Alexander met the woman of his dreams. Now, she’s the widow of his late best friend.

Dominic grew up with an abusive father, and he believes the apple doesn’t fall too far from the tree. Sloane has a very similar story, having a mother who cares more about appearances than the wellbeing of her own daughter. Despite their seemingly identical backgrounds, they still didn’t see eye-to-eye. Hate defined their relationship for so long, but all of that changes when an agreement to sate bodily desires allows for deep feelings to develop and longtime secrets to come to the surface.

This was a powerful love story between two people who think they're only capable of being hurt and causing hurt. This story was so raw and unafraid to rip its readers open with heavy emotion. It was painful, yet it brought healing at the same time.

The best part of this book, in my opinion, is the way Dominic loved Sloane; he brought the swoon and the spice, but he did all of that with so much respect for Sloane’s relationship with his best friend. Sloane was the same way; she recognized and kept her late husband’s place in her heart while she loved Dominic with all her being. 

It’s also worth highlighting how incredibly well-written this book is. This author is gifted with the ability to create lush and vivid imagery with lyrical writing that sucks you in and makes you feel every emotion possible.

Another major aspect of this book is the intense angst. If you’re looking for a book that will make you chuck your Kindle out the window because of it, then look no further. While I’m one to gravitate towards angsty books, I found this particular one a little bit too much. I wasn’t a fan of the push and pull right at the end where the big sigh of relief in the story was supposed to take place. Because the relief came so late, the pacing consequently felt off. The ending was very sweet and romantic, but I think things happened way too soon for the main characters.

That being said, I think this was a great entry from an up-and-coming voice in the contemporary romance world. I’m so thankful that I got to experience this author’s writing prowess, and I’m definitely interested in reading more!

Absolutely loved this! Enemies to lovers is one of my absolute favorites. Dom and Sloane are one of my new fav book couples! My one and only complaint is
the third act break up. They are the bane of my existence.
Other than that I had such a nice time reading!

*fans herself* well. This book was steamy and I absolutely loved it. I loved that it was an unapologetically Black romance with nuances specifically meant for the Black community. Though I don't belong to this community, I appreciated the gorgeous storytelling, the tension between the characters, the longing and wanting and...okay, this book is just HOT.
