Reread.
Sadly, this time I noticed how cringe the book actually is, but 25% in didn’t notice it anymore. I still like Edward even though I knew that the age difference is weird but you know who cares, it’s a book and it’s a product of its time. Bella really had to be not like other girls but also self deprecating

I’m super offended by many of the characterizations. But I’m especially offended by the harmful and ableist comments like comparing teenage hormonal infatuation to being “mentally disabled” and other such offhand comments. I get it that I’m reading this in 2023 and this book was published in 2005, but the slurs in this book used so casually were still considered slurs even in 2005. This book’s perspective on healthy bodies and relationships were so narrow minded as to be inaccurate. The dialogue between the protagonist and the LI is, essentially, textbook grooming and predatory abuse. I’m appalled this was/is so popular.
Moderate: Ableism
