This beginning chapter book is a great starting point for young readers. The series is great because it is somewhat predictable but still funny and engaging. This book would be great for a lesson on predictions and context clues. It is cute and uses many illustrations to drive home the simple words.

I know? How could I not have read a Fly Guy book by now? Somehow it happened, and I am fixing that with the Reading Challenge.

I can see why these are popular beginning readers. The format doesn't prevent from Arnold telling a good story, using his funny art to take over when the words would be too complicated for new readers to handle (wedding, engagement, etc).

Very simple early reader that is fun for both boys and girls. I loved it. Need to read more of the Fly Guy books.

The "fly talk" featured in this book is quite hysterical to read aloud. The dream sequence when Fly Girl and Fly Guy imagine falling in love, marrying, and raising their brood in a cast-off tin can only to realise they'd miss their human friends too much to follow through with it--ending in "let's just be friends!--is completely charming (and a bit subversive.) This series is a hit with my kids (7 and 8) and this is my favorite of the bunch.

Fly Guy Meets Fly Girl is a great early chapter book for younger readers. This book has pictures to help support readers transition out of picture books and easier text to read. This book is also short which is nice for kindergarten through second grade. This story goes over when Fly Guy meets Fly Girl and they start to imagine a life together. This book would be great to read aloud as it is full of humor but also great for children who are tired of "baby books" and want to start chapter books. I would use this in my classroom to talk about nonsense words as well.

Love is in the air and Neo’s reading about it...

It's another Fly Guy adventure with Neo at the reading helm. In this piece, Fly Guy and Buzz are out having fun when they encounter a girl, Liz, and her pet fly, Fly Girl. Fly Guy and Fly Girl chat up a storm, or whatever it is that flies do. They speak of the future and the potentials, only to realise that their owners may miss them too much. By the end, it's time to make a promise to one another. Fly Guy and Fly Girl will remain great friends! Neo is enjoying taking the lead reading to me and is doing so well. I am happy to see the progress he is making each day. Way to go, Neo!
