3.5 ⭐️. This was an enjoyable read, but didn’t blow me away. The story was action packed and for the romance being insta-love/lust I actually didn’t hate it. Our MMC showed remarkable restraint and I was pleasantly surprised when the buildup to the spice lasted for over half the book. And when the spice did hit…hot damn

Y’all, I’ve gone down a dark romance rabbit hole and I’m here for it.
Evangelina is a badass cop that wants to see the good in people while Derek is a bad boy assassin with a troubled past. The only major downside to Eva is how she thought the red flags Derek was waving was a carnival…BUT it happens when you get caught up in the romance (so I’ve heard. Apparently you have to go out and talk to people to actually experience any romance so I read about it instead).
ANYWHO Elle, you did an amazing job with your debut novel and I’m so excited for the next book!! I love the reflections each character had, the character development, the relationships they had with each other that didn’t actually involve the two main characters. The storyline followed (although that lil drop about his past that they just don’t talk about, talk about secrets

This was my first book by Elle and it definitely won't the last, I will devour the next books.
A quick, high intensity, high spice read with Derek's filthy mouth making for some toe squishing moments. Eva and the other female characters are all absolute badasses, can't wait to read Lenis story next.

OMGGGG the MOUTH on this man!
Mafia romance is one of my FAVORITES and Elle Maldonado hit the mail in the head.
This was Ms. Elle’s debut novel but you canNOT tell with how amazing this book is! It had me hooked from the VERY beginning, I couldn’t put it down!
It has the angst, the suspense, the CHEMISTRY and an AMAZING story line.
I love how in depth the characters were written. There was so much emotion, I could feel myself getting drawn into their lives with every word I read. Elle Maldonado did a fantastic job. I can’t wait for book 2!

SUCH a good dark mafia romance. Derek and Eva were just such an amazing pair. She is strong, independent, and knows herself and her wants. Derek is flawed, violent, and also so good. I am just in love with these characters.
There is quite a lot of descriptive violence within this book. Just be warned. There are also very spicy and descriptive scenes.... that I could not get enough of. I also really appreciate that this book was not instant love. These two had to work for their love.
