⛓️Elle, miss ma’am, that was phenomenal. Give me a man who will burn the world down for his woman and I’m salivating. 𝘋𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘬 𝘊𝘢𝘪𝘯 was no exception.

⛓️A detective & a hitman what an unlikely pair… BUT IT WORKS. Eva & Derek have these jolts of electricity when they are together and everything is easy, effortless. Their souls seem intertwined like that weee made to find one another. They are drawn to one another and inexplicably linked down to the molecular level. It’s chemistry, its lust, its longing, and love and it’s fucking beautiful.

⛓️This book gave me 𝑱𝒐𝒉𝒏 𝑾𝒊𝒄𝒌: 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑷𝒓𝒆𝒒𝒖𝒆𝒍 vibes. A dark depraved man unshaken until the woman waltzes in and shakes everything up. So much so he will lay everything down for her. Nothing matters, no one else exists, only her.

‼️ This is book is absolutely worth a read. I binged it in one sitting because I wanted ignored all those flashing red flags Derek Caine gave us and like Eva figured that looks like a fun carnival ride. That being said it touches on dark themes, so if you are hoping for a fluffy bunny romance…. THIS IS NOT FOR YOU. However, if you have a dark and twisted soul that dances in the moonlight, I think this will be right up your alley you gorgeous depraved goddess.

Eva, the FMC, was a cop that’s been through hell and honestly wants to help people, but had a bit of a naive belief in the system. Her world and the people in it were filled with dark secrets. Enter the vengeful assassin Derek, the MMC, he was disconnected, pessimistic, morally gray, and ready to burn the world down.

The two of them had a hot and immediate attraction but the powers that be wanted to keep them apart. Derek fell the first time he saw her in a picture and his determination to make Eva his was hot. I loved the angsty banter and chemistry between them.

I enjoyed the audio for this one, it was a dual audio but the kind where the narrators traded off reading chapters not individual lines. Even though it wasn’t my favorite type of dual I still really enjoyed the narrators and thought they both did a great job.

This follows Derek and Eva. Eva believes she knows everything that goes on around her. She is a fiery detective chasing a flakey lead she feels responsible for but starts to unravel the secrets and lies of those who are close to her.

I discovered this was Elle’s debut novel and I enjoyed it. The audiobook narration for this book is great as well being dual narration. I love Janine's work and discovering Bryant he was the perfect Derek.
These two characters collided and I loved their tension between one another. The spicy scenes were perfection and had me weak. It's giving Instalove which I'm not a huge fan of but didn't mind in this. The FMC Eva deals with a medical condition, was feisty, and strong but also had a vulnerable side and would get emotional as well. The MMC Derek is a serial unaliver and part of the criminal underworld and has a mouth on him. I will say for a debut novel I'm impressed and do want to mention a couple of things I wish were expanded on. First off Eva is a detective. I felt it was being mentioned but it didn't feel it was explored enough. The plot overall I could picture what was going on but with the amount of characters bought in I had to keep reminding myself who they were and what side they were on. I felt at times I would lose where we were going with the plot like a disconnect. Just felt it was a little loose. Overall for a debut novel, I'm happy and enjoyed the audiobook and read along on my Kindle.
