This is the least favorite of the series I’ve read so far. The racism was a little much, especially because there wasn’t a narrative reason. It seemed to be mostly there for “flair” and “realism,” however the beauty of historical fiction is that, if we choose, we can create a corner of history where people are treated fairly. I only finished the book because it was short and I wanted to read how she met her adoptive daughters.
Moderate: Pedophilia, Racial slurs, Racism, and Sexual assault
