The book was very slow in the beginning and didn't really draw me in until around the 40% mark. I actually almost dnf. However, then the story developed more/became more interesting. Also, I didn't like Kelsier and was at times really annoyed and/or bored of his POV. I did like Vin and really enjoyed her POV.

This is my first book in the Sanderson Cosmere. I will admit, the sheer amount of world building and knowledge you need to acquire at the very start of this book meant that this book took me longer to really get in to. But once I did, I couldn’t put it down. And allomancy might be one of my favorite magic systems. Each metal is so unique and the way in which they function together is fascinating!
However, writing a spoiler free review is turning out to be…incredibly difficult! I have so many thoughts and even more questions that I can only hope will be answered in the next books.
Definitely worth a read (or a listen in this case! Highly recommend) if you love complex magic systems, found family, and unexpected twists in a fascinating story.

I really enjoyed reading this book. It was intriguing, fun, and had a really cool magic system. Brandon Sanderson isn't afraid to take risks and in this book, they all work. The reason this isn't a 5 star is because I felt it could be shorter (yes, this is strange coming from the person who is in love with Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell by Susanna Clarke, a book that could have been shorter but I'm glad it wasn't). The middle had some scenes that I think could have been done without and some POV's I don't think the reader needed, especially since they were so short. But this is just my personal opinion.
I recommend this series to all epic fantasy lovers and I am excited to read the next book.
Edit: I forgot to mention that this first book is essentially Star Wars, in my opinion. :P
