They both wanted just one more day and die than to live an eternity without the other

I loved this story. It had me captivated from beginning to end. Elliot Myra Allen- Baker had been orphaned twice and she was terrified to ever care to love anyone ever again. The loss was just too much for her to handle. She led a lonely quiet life as a librarian, who escaped her mundane life by reading all kinds of romance books like the one her birth mother did. Her only excitement came with her monthly Historical Romance Book Club meetings. Her true excitement came when the club went on a cruise to Iceland, the land of Vikings, when on the last night, a mysterious mist swallowed Ellie and threw her into the past, in 1050, a whole thousand years in the past.

The newly anointed Jarl of his village upon the untimely death of his brother Jerric, Thorin was nervous and intrigued with the bronze-skinned beauty. He had his village to protect and needed to make sure his prisoner was not plotting against his village and Jarldom. How could Ellie explain something she did not understand herself. Thorin wore her down and made her feel things she had never felt before from a man and that was being loved and cared for. Thorin was unlike anything she had read Vikings were. He was gentle and caring. Winning his trust he freed her if she promised to stay. He'd come to love her but she was afraid to love him because everyone she ever loved died and she did not want that on her conscience. To complicate things more, he was betrothed to a spoiled brat from another clan that had underhanded plans for his clan. With Ellie refusing to admit she loved him, he had no choice but to carry through joining the two clans. But finding out the clan leader, and father of the bride Sassa had absconded with Ellie and the plans they had, Thorin had no choice but to rescue the love of his life. Fearing that she would lose Thorin to death, she finally realized that a life without Thorin was no life at all. She finally got what she always wanted, love and a family of her own. She had no need to go back to her time to her mundane boring life, because wherever Thorin was she was home, he was her HEA. Plus she was blessed to have a third mother with Gyda, Thorin's mother. She came to the village as a scared little mouse but she grew into the perfect shieldmaiden to rule by Thorin's side as his queen.

This is honestly such a comfort read for me. Time traveling, Vikings, a Black heroine? Pure joy for me. The setting, characters, and plot is fun, feisty and engaging. More like this Twyla!

Uh.

TW: sexual assault and miscarriage
The premise of the book was very interesting. The story left a lot to be desired. I usually don’t mind instalove/lust but not after being sexually assaulted. I guess if you think of the book as a bodice ripper, it isn’t the worst. Still, I wish at least more time was taken for them to get to know each other.

I also wish we got a better understanding of how the magical mist worked. Like what made it pick Elliot, and why did it come back at the moment that it came back. Was it triggered by something, or was it just a way to show Elliot chose to stay with Thorin.

This surprised me. A booktoker recommended this book. I read the premise and dived in! I loved this book. I loved Thorin. A simple, straightforward man that loves with everything. Then Ellie had to deal with so much grief. Her walls were bigger than Thorin’s arms! The entire time, I waited for Dag to betray Thorin. That never happened, which was refreshing.

I really enjoyed this!

Hmm

Elliot Allen leads the most boring life after tragedy had crippled her heart, but, during a trip of a lifetime, she is flung back into time to mean the Viking that changes every thing. But tragedy is not yet done with Elliot.

I’ve been eyeing this series for a while, and only just was able to catch up to it. That being said, I thought it was pretty good, all things considered. I’m actually happy that Elliot didn’t go back to the present, as there really wasn’t anything there for her.

If you like time travel and Vikings, this is the romance for you.
