Look, this is a somewhat controversial rating, I get it. There is one scene (IYKYK) that is like an ice bath. One minute you are enjoying this silly little story, and then it becomes VERY clear that this is a book, and takes you right out of it. Despite the 4 star rating, I DONT think that scene was handled well, and I wish that it was taken out completely (especially since it ends up not as important as it first implies).

Did I completely picture the lead actors from the TV show while reading this? Oh 100%. I'm disappointed that the characters were not as diverse as they are in the show, but I am not surprised since this came out in 2000 and something. Overall though, It was a fun little book, and for a regency romance, I surprised myself by enjoying it a lot more than I thought I would.

I enjoyed this book more than I expected to—right up until
the scene with major consent issues. If the author had just made Simon and Daphne have a major argument and separate off to different houses instead of including that scene, this book would have gotten a 4 stars from me but that scene just ruined things and was both upsetting and off putting.
Given that this book is otherwise a lighthearted romance (rather than historical fiction or literary fiction), it truly didn’t fit or work for me. I enjoyed the characters, Simon especially, otherwise. It was fun seeing Daphne’s close relationships with Violet, Colin, and Anthony. I did miss some of the characters (I would have liked to see much more of Eloise, Francesca, and Lady Danbury) and certainly the diversity we see in the tv show.

This is my second time reading this book and loved it as much as the first time. I first read it before watching the series and now reading it after I feel like how I imagine characters and places are tainted by the characters cast in the show which are completely different as described which is why it gets a 4 star this time as it affected my reading experience.

I love Simon so much and he is so pure of heart with his intentions. Daphne does annoy me a little in certain scenes but love them together.

I love how the book purely focuses on their story without too many background stories like the show.

And of course the 3 Bridgerton brother have my heart!
