I loved Lillian. Loved the beautiful language. I could relate to her love of NYC and the wonder and magic of taking a walk in New York City.

I loved taking this New Year’s Eve walk with Lilian Boxfish! I wish I could inhabit her world and immerse myself in the New York of bygone days. This was definitely a more challenging read for me as I had to use my dictionary every few pages, but I loved how it engaged my brain while also capturing the 60 years of trends and fads. This isn’t a plot driven novel with a traditional story arc, but rather a walk down memory lane inspired by the real life advertising trailblazer Margaret Fishback. It’s different but so, so good! What a great final read of the year!

Kind of adorable. Lillian Boxfish's early career reminds me of how I approached my early career.
Clever way of telling the story to take us on a walk around New York.

This was a slow starter for me, and I kind of pigeon-holed Lillian before I really got to know her. I loved the second half of this book and miss Lillian now that it's over!

To quote another reviewer, I liked it but I didn't love it Fairly slow, sometimes a real downer, but Lillian's spunky spirit was often a bright spot.

Lovely novel set in New York City, the story is based on a real life person who must have been a fascinating character. The narrator's voice took me, literally, hours to get used to - turns out it is narrated by a 40 year old who is trying to sound like an 80 year old, which at times was distracting.

I think the reason I liked this book but didn't love it is because I just finished Harold Fry, and absolutely adored it. Maybe if I read this at a different time, I would have had different feelings...?

I truly loved this book. I loved the poetry of the language. There was a cadence of the story that made me happy. I also identified in a lot of ways with Lillian but I am no where near as strong as she was. Highly recommend!
