So I loved the characters and the set up for this book. Cannon manages to create a believable setting and endearing characters with multiple humorous scenes that move the plot along. The main reason I didn't give this a higher rating is the conflict resolution. Conflicts are resolved in super short disbelievable scenes that don't involve much follow through and the reader is expected to believe that even with all that build up that two second argument makes everything all better. Had there been more to the book with a longer struggle toward the resolution of the conflicts presented within the story my rating would have been much higher. The couple is not one the world would consider ideal and I have trouble believing that all of their problems both with outside opposition to their relationship and with family issues could be resolved or swept under the rug so easily. I would however probably read a sequel about the same couple if one were ever available in hopes that it would offer a more realistic resolution of their problems.

3.5 stars • This is such a fun read. Though there are times Haley is getting into my nerves and I'm getting annoyed at her character. Like she was the one who planned the whole thing then when Bryce ended up ignoring her, she suddenly complains about lit like wtf girl it ain't even real? But yeah, at some point, because of that it DID end up real.

Haley is a teenage girl with very overprotective twin older brothers. So, when the popular Bryce Colton starts a rumor that he hooked up with her, she uses it as blackmail to force him into a fake month long relationship. By that, she hopes to get the boys to see her as dateable and make sure the other Haley's boyfriend doesn't beat up Bryce for sleeping with her.

While I liked the synopsis of this book and thought it would be super cute, I was slightly disappointed by the execution. Bryce's feelings were all over the place and it felt a lot like he was using Haley until the very end. He didn't treat her well and acted like a brat every time he didn't control everything around him. Haley was very dramatic and kept trying to trick Bryce into liking her, but I like how she acted at the gala and how driven she is to help animals. I loved Jane and Nathan's relationship and felt like they had a healthy relationship. The only negative about them is the fact that they highlighted everything wrong in Haley and Bryce's relationship.

I thought I was going to at least like this book if not love it and while I kept going back and forth on it I ended up not liking this book overall. I just didn't like the main character Haley and I didn't connect with there chemistry. As I always like to pick something good out of everything I will list what I liked and what didn't below.

The Good:
I liked the secondary characters Jane and Nathan and thought there chemistry was cute and easy to believe.

I liked Bryce the male lead and found his life believable. I found Bryce struggle with the expectation from his family and life to feel authentic .

I loved Haley's family Dynamics her brothers are funny, her dad sweet and understanding, her mom a little crazy and over protective my mom was also terrified I'd repeat her mistake and went a little over the deep end so VERY relatable.

I liked the moments of jealousy it's the only thing that made me at all believe maybe Bryce had feelings for Haley.

The Bad
Haley wasnt necessarily the most likely character she is wishy washy and a little needy. She was supposed to be a smart girl but acted dumb (I hate that)

I felt there was no real developed chemistry between the two but all of a sudden they made out. it obviously Haley is attracted to and likes Bryce but you go the whole book wondering if he even likes her at all because non of the writing really shows that then she's the one bam just like that.

She is also supposed to be middle class but the way the book describes it is she is poor. I have been both middle class and poor and she is not dirt poor in anyway but definitely not middle class. it doesn't matter too much but kinda bugged me the kept stressing she wasn't poor and was middle class but then made it we're she doesn't have a cellphone cuz they can't afford it and can only shop at the good will. Her friend Jane was better fit with being middle class.

Not my favourite by any means but damn it. Those moments when they’re fake it but really feeling it - I get all swooney and grin like an idiot.

I needed a whole lot more than just what we got, but I’ll take whatever we can get when it comes to fake dating in high school!
