The first book didn't really hold any big surprises after seeing the TV-show. But I sure enjoyed going back to the beginning and there's always something magical about taking part of the actual books. I couldn't stop reading, though I realize that many readers might find the swapping between narratives a bit challenging. There are a lot of characters and places to take in, so it's definetly an advantage to have seen the show beforehand.

What I don't understand is that some people are rating this book at the lowest possible - it's an incredibly well-written series and the plot is amazing. I can't imagine the effort it must have taken to create something like this. Sure, you don't have to love it, but still.. it deserves a lot more, in my personal opinion.

~Spoiler ~

The clues about Jon's heritage and Daenerys and their presumed relation is probably what made me the most intrigued, since there are so many recurrent subtle details in the story. I don't remember Dany seeing figures of a wolf and a man in the fire during the TV-show? It's been a long time since I watched the first season though.

I can't give a proper review, because no words I could write could do this book justice.
