Really good book for both girls and boys in the middle grades to read. Easy short chapters that fly by and enough subtlety that it seems like it mimics what happens in real life. This book has a valuable lesson for middle grade kids to understand. Would definitely recommend for kids going into or already in middle school.

One of those topics that's hard to put into words but is really important for kids to know about. When I was a kid, I thought I understood what bullying and sexual assault were, but would never have known what to call unwanted touching or sexually-based bullying. It is distressing, but feels less serious than those things, so you dismiss it- you don't want to be "too sensitive" or "overreacting." Gosh, gaslighting starts really early, I just realized. I felt like the book may have gone on a little long, but it was still worth reading. Definitely appropriate for a middle schooler.

An a important middle-grades book on bullying and consent. Great pick from our library’s Battle of the Books.

I wish that I had a book like this when I was around middle-school aged. Mila's progression through her struggles and finding words to describe how the harassment made her feel? Spot-on. It really puts into perspective how the issue impacts everyone, even younger people.

First off, I think this is a super important book for this age group. I think the story and characters are exceptionally well-written. But I am quite bothered by the ending: I'm not sure how I feel about her seeming to befriend one of her former harassers. Might not be the strongest message. I'm all about her feeling empowered and trying move on, but it leaves a bitter taste in my mouth.

I read to page 186. I wanted to find out if Mila stood up for herself to the bullies or if she reported their behavior to a teacher.

Content Warnings: There were two middle school boys who liked each other.

This book was a tremendous read! Its short chapters make it accessible and relatable. It is sure to provide plenty of jumping-off points for powerful discussion among middle school readers. I sure wish I had this book when I was a seventh-grader. Highly recommend.
