Took until about page 140 for it to get interesting, but I did like the ending. Fitzgerald is a good writer, there are some beautiful sentences in there and he's good at writing flashbacks and other jumps through time. His characters are credible, but quite flat.

Ironically, Gatsby is presented as the mysterious one but you learn more about him than all other characters combined.

I enjoyed this book and it's depictions of elitism. The symbolism was my favourite part, but the characters fell flat for me at times as they could feel more like narrative tools to enforce the themes rather than fleshed out people.

None of the characters were in any way redeemable, the plot was really boring until chapter 7, and chapters 7-8 were the only reasons this book got a 2 rather than a 1. Characters were also really boring and honestly kinda stupid. Also they were all really racist, antisemitic, and misogynistic. I know it reflects the times, but the fact that none of them were in any way good kinda screwed that up.

I had to read this for summer reading and I dont feel like im old enough to really understand most of it really? Im also not the biggest fan of America or rich people so that kinda tetered me off of it aswell. I did deduct a few stars are slurs and racism (but also it was the 1920s so im cutting them some slack) and the fact that Francis Scott Fitsgerald plagarized it from his wife, Zelda Fitzgerald, yet its still under his name.
I do however think the writing was great and the more drama-ish bits were entertaining. The choice to have it be from an outsiders perspective was also quite a good choice aswell.

This book was a little harder read for me. I didn't like the flow of it. The husband to Daisy was a horrible character.
<Spoiler> I didn't like that the husband was cheating on Daisy with another married woman. I also looked at spoilers and saw that infidelity was going to be a themed in this novel. Also Daisy's character was also written to be very cynical and foolish.<Spoiler>

This was not the book for me.
