I have mixed feelings about this one. I am not sure it was what I had expected after reading the blurb.

The thing I am sure of is that I enjoyed the sequel slightly more than Carry On. I think that is because of the faster pacing and the more varied scenery of the american desert, lousy motels and sin's city itself.

I found it intrigueing, but I missed more of what was promised in the blurb about Baz and Simon figureing out their relationship and themselves. Other than that, the characters just felt kind of distant from each other and there were scenes wich didn't seem necessary to the plot. I also didn't feel like I got as much out of the ending as I hoped for while reading.

This book is a very solid middle book. I’ll confess if it wasn’t for the characters who I have deeply loved since reading Carry On I doubt I would rate the book this high but I am biased.
As before Rowells dialogue is funny and concise and the plot is perfectly fine. It does however make you feel like the story is incomplete and as I read and finished this before the third book was announced I was left somewhat disappointed in the conclusion. However with the context of the third book this is a perfect segue. Bridging the gap between books and offering a new backdrop to the adventures of our four main characters after Watford

THIS is what I wanted Carry On to be. Big and silly, dumb and fun, not too serious, but all heart. And hella gay.

Whoever said this was disappointing didn't read the same book.

Like Carry On this was very easy to read. Kinda sad throughout all of it and I’m disappointed that there was no resolution to the Baz/Simon conflict. I’m glad Agatha stopped being such a sourpuss in the end. The whole Lamb thing feels weird, like I get it but it feels like it didn’t come to a satisfying conclusion. Shephard is cool, love him, welcome to the family. Wish there were more consequences for the battle sequences, rather than just “ah i have 6 bullet wounds but lez just magic it away ez”. Never a bore to read though. I do love the characters and am very attached to all of them (except Agatha lol).

Very realistic in the sense that none of the male characters know how to talk about their feelings and deal with them in a healthy way.
