I don't think I can continue with this series, and I hate that! I was such a big fan of King of Battle and Blood, but this series broke away in concept and plot in a way that I just had no interest in keeping up with.
Adrian and Isolde are so confused about who they are and what they are doing, I just don't know where to turn. Now, I don't know if just forgot all about Dis and the Priestess (or whatever they are called), but this took a turn on what Adrian is actually looking to accomplish in the storyline that I wasn't a fan of.
I also felt a strong sense of confusion from Isolde. She's a reincarnated witch, with no witch powers, but is practicing witch powers because it's somewhere deep within her, but is also a werewolf, but is also a vampire? I was lost and confused and just overall not happy.
And I thought I would like the romance at least, but all Adrian and Isolde did was fight, so I lost my interest in them.
Don't think I'll be continuing this story.

This is another one of those books where it feels like the author has just made it up as she went along, and nothing really happens despite the underwhelming reveals. The first one had potential as a story but this was hard to finish.

But like, why were so many things taken from the Throne of Glass series. Icky. It’s a solid 2.5.

I’ll be honest, I didn’t love this as much as the first book. It was good, but it wasn’t great. The plot sort of fell apart, and so many stories were left unfinished. The overall plot is still there and I will definitely be reading the next book to find out what happens. However, a lot of the sub-plots were unnecessary and distracting, while the ones that actually moved the book forward felt rushed. The characters that I came to love were bland in comparison, and their stores were no longer as interesting. As for Adrian and Isolde…I really don’t care what happens to them. If they work out, good for them. If one dies, oh well too bad. All they do is fight and fuck, and it got repetitive and boring after the first few. The sex scenes were hot, don’t get me wrong there, but outside of those I wasn’t engaged in their romance. Hopefully the next book is a more exciting and gets me back into the story, as I started off really loving the series.

This book is not good... they fight, they fuck. It's a terrible relationship model and it's super unhealthy. The audiobook is fine until it switches to the male narrator who sounds like that video of Gilbert Godfrey reading 50 Shades. Awful.

Agh 2.5 stars. The plot gets convoluted and the author seemed to really struggle with this one. Hoping the next book is better!

I think this is the first book I have DNF’d. Once again Scarlett st Clair writes herself into hole with a romantasy series. Since the enemies are now lovers she has to add in more plot points to progress the story and create tension for more sex scenes. It’s just bad fantasy writing and it’s infuriating that every time a new crazy plot point is added the characters fuck instead of addressing anything that’s happened???? And then when we’re done with the fucking instead of going back to the aforementioned attempt at fantasy plot she simply adds another and the cycle repeats. Which creates a bad story and annoying sex scenes.
Maybe she should just stick with silly little stand alone romances.
