3.5. This was a pretty amazing history of the Targaryens and their reign for many very 300 years. It has its moments where it tends to drag on areas where there really wasn’t relevance, but made an interesting tale about about each character that’s involved.

I know many people think of this book as very dry but I kind of flew through it. Super interesting and gives a lot more context to the original series. Would love to FINALLY see the sequel to this but knowing GRRM I think I have to be patient.

Liked this sm more than I expected. Unique way of storytelling, I liked the different accounts of how things might have happened. Not sure if I would have gotten thru it if I didn’t listen as an audiobook. Was fun to read while s2 of hotd is coming out.

Good for what it is, I guess. Literally like picking up a textbook and just reading it. Still gonna read the second one whenever it comes out tho

As a huge fan of extensive world building, I’m shocked it took me this long to get this book off of my TBR. This was a really interesting history of one of the most enigmatic families in Westeros history. Truly reading like a history book, this novel discussed sources used in the telling of the histories, the veracity of a number of claims, and even cited further reading sources (that obviously don’t exist) for works outside the scope of this one. This all lent itself to creating a history that felt very real. A great addition for anyone who is a fan of the world Martin has created and definitely adds depth and meaning to ASOIAF.
