Color Purple is an epistolary novel about a black woman in America and her struggles. From child abuse to domestic violence, from racial discrimination to gender inequality, a lot of issues have been discussed here. Not an easy read. The language was very typical of early Blacks in America. In addition, all that the protagonist and her family go through, was heartbreaking to imagine. Due to the subject matter, it took me much longer than usual to finish reading this. A book that needs to be read, yet a book I'd never read again.

SURPRISINGLY GRAPHIC. I heard of this book years ago, probably first by the movie. All I knew was that Oprah played a role. Now that I've finished the book, I'm super curious about which role Oprah played and if the movie was as graphic as the book. Then I couldn't help but think of the character Harpo and how that is Oprah's name backwards and also the name of her production company. I can't help but wonder if that was intentional on her part too. Anyway, this was a good story. I liked how it covered so many years and focused on just a few main characters. It left no loose ends.
