I had never read any of Beverly Jenkins work before this one and it started me on a kick that lasted for another year or so! It's historical romance that doesn't erase the Black and Indigenous presence in the American West in particular. It was compulsively readable, with the exception being some strange pacing at times. If you are looking for historical romance, Beverly Jenkins is the place to start.

I'm glad for diversity in the world of fiction. I found this story better than others by Ms Jenkins, but can't say the writing or character development stood out to me as what I might recommend to others or seek out more of myself.
