I even skipped to the end in hopes of easing my discomfort with the book. It didn’t help.

I find this book particularly hard to review. It was a solid 3 stars but that last chapter flips the whole book on its head. I had to go back and read certain parts again. Slow going in parts but it’s worth sticking with and finishing for the amazing conclusion.
A good look and obsessive love and what it can do to us.

I had the opportunity to read this in French, and the writing is beautiful. The first two paragraphs had me focused from the start.

I thought this was going to tell the story of an insecure woman’s relationship with her husband. She’s clearly an overthinker and always assumes the worst case scenario is going to happen.

In the beginning, the main character seems to love her husband above anyone else. She’s deeply scared that her husband will inevitably slip through her fingers somehow, cheat on her and leave.
I got confused and realized she was psychotic when she
cheats on him for the first time
halfway through the book. I didn’t expect this at all given how much she seems to love him and the way she wants him to love her just as much.

The ending was unexpected but nicely done in my opinion. I liked it but I have many unanswered questions.

This woman and her husband need to be kept AWAY from any children and put in a padlocked room away from society. GOOD GOD. I loved reading about her neuroses and how the author came back to certain points to make everything clear. It’s crazy how this woman is living in her own personal hell in the name of love. I personally loved the twist ending, I don’t care what that says about my taste.
