There are several emotions a young man is facing as he hitchhikes his way to see his ill mother. Nice short novella with a creepy factor. This plays on old urban legends. I enjoyed the length of the story.

Classic Stephen King ghost story - not over the top scary - but enough to give you the chills. A college kid gets the call that his mother had a stroke and she's in the hospital - he drops everything to go to her. The only problem is... his car isn't working. He decides to hitchhike the 120 miles because he is desperate to make sure his mom is ok - she's the only family he has. He thumbs a ride and then another - but the drivers aren't who they appear to be. In fact there is something wrong about the whole evening. It might take him a lot longer to get to his mother - if he ever gets to see her again. Quick, suspenseful, and satisfying. I thought the ending was particularly thought provoking and not what I expected.

I listened to the audiobook version of this book and it was actually quite fun. I listened to it while straightening my hair, or while waiting for something or simply while doing house chores. Not because I had nothing better to hear, but because the story genuinely intrigued me. I’m keeping this review short. So in conclusion: if it’s a Stephen King book, it OUGHT to be worthy!

I am giving this book a 3 out of 5 stars

It could have been longer. But, a short story along the lines of what made me a Stephen King fan. Alan receives a call at school saying his mom had a stroke. The hitchhiked trip back home proves scary. As with most Stephen King reads, it's not just a ghost story.

I thought it was an interesting story. It wasn't scary at all but it kept me engaged. I actually listened to the audio book and it was such a quick story to go through. All in all, it was good!

An okay read for this short story. Wished there would have been more of an explanation about why things happened. Not really a creepy story, but just a story.

I am a huge Stephen King fan, but hate to say that I really did not enjoy this short story. There was a fair amount of suspense as Allen makes his way to the hospital and has his 'encounter', but after that the story just went downhill for me...or perhaps I just didn't get the ending.

It was an okay horror novela. The more quiet kind, not that scary and not gory but creeps in your mind. Not the best I've read by Stephen King but I'm glad I read it.
