You do not have to be interested in running to read this - I hate running. But it’s a good insight in how she shapes her mental and health state during the years and especially after setbacks due to health issues. It is an inspiring story and I am happy that her work and determination payed off.

An avid, yet very average runner myself, I have followed the careers of a handful of elite American runners for many years. Des Linden is one of them. I enjoyed having the opportunity to learn more about her upbringing, how she became a runner, and the ups and downs of her running career. Her story is an inspirational and quick read. I only wish there had been a few photos included in the book… I always like when memoirists include them.

A motivating story as I start building for the marathon this fall. Des doesn’t hold back about the trials and tribulations of her racing career and I was fascinated the whole time. I’m so glad she won Boston in 2018, she deserved it

Des Linden outlines the ups and downs of her running career in this book and it was both fascinating and inspiring. A great memoir of what it truly takes to be an elite female athlete. I especially loved her sharing her take on doping and the emotions she went through while finding out it was occurring. How discouraging it is to an athlete to know you are up against athletes that are not clean.
