everything was set up so well- i became very invested in the characters
the descriptions of graphic realities of war were intense but so memorable even just reading about them makes me think about the long term effects on people that lived through it.
so much happens in this book!!!

This is an absolute gem of a book. It is heart-wrenching, but I loved every piece of it. This was my first Adichie, and she deserves all the glowing recommendations she has. I will re-read in a couple of years. Cannot recommend enough for people who like historical literary fiction. It has love, familial relationships, class struggle, and it is exquisitely written.

I enjoyed the multiple first-person narrators who by telling their story tell the story of Biafra. The novel moves between the early Sixties and the late Sixties, rather than a simple linear plot.

I liked the very different personalities of the three narrators, and found all the characters well developed and complex individuals.

Chimamanda Ngozie Adichie is a powerful storyteller, very worth reading!

I loved hearing from the multiple perspectives, and the author did a great job tying them all together. I enjoyed learning about this war. You really get to hear their thoughts, and it felt like I was growing up along with the characters. I want to read everything by this author!

This book requires an analytic, critical lens of a literature student to get the most out of it. The prose can drag at times but this isn't exactly an action-packed story. The horrors of the Nigerian civil war are on full display. Besides the two women protagonists, I hated every character. Men are truly the scum of the earth.
