A sort of melancholic look back at a pivotal year for the main character.

Such a fun, contemplative book to read in the autumn. Loved the dynamic between Jake and Uncle C, and the way his community keeps him together

I am so surprised at how much I liked this book! I was previewing it for my daughter (I do think I'll have her hold off for a couple years) and did not expect to be so deeply moved by it. If you were ever a 12-year-old kid riding bikes with your friends in places you shouldn't have been, doing things you shouldn't have been doing, and going back home at night feeling like you could take on anything, even if it scared you a little - this book is for you.

It's small but mighty, and surprisingly impactful, with vivid prose and valuable insight into some of the mysteries of life and love. Sentimental, charming, and unnerving - I don't want to say too much about it, because I wouldn't want to give anything away - but you should read this. Truly.
