Summer camp. Drama, check. New friends, check. Mystery, definite check. Abby returns to camp and meets many new people and old campers. The one thing that she didn't expect, mystery seems to be floating through camp.

i liked this! there is some good exploration of adolescent girl drama and how it's played out in a summer camp setting, and it rings true.

this didn't affect my overall feelings about the book, but i will say that i was sad that the book contained the same misinformation about chiggers that FREAKED ME OUT when i heard it as a child. chiggers do not in fact burrow and then die in your skin. they inject an enzyme into your skin, feed on you, and then drop off, and it's the enzyme that itches so maddeningly. let's stop this vicious cycle of misinformation about chiggers, because it is so disgusting to even imagine.

I was looking forward to this book. But in the end, it was boring. The characters were bleh or bitchy and there wasn't much happening but a whole crap load of teenage drama.

The whole book takes place during camp. Now, this is normally not a problem, but all the drama and all the stuff that is happening just make it bleh. I didn't enjoy it, there were some camp stuff, but I missed quite a few things that I also wanted to see.

The characters were horrendous. Either they whined, bitched or didn't have any guts to say anything. Abby was a dreadful character, at times I was just confused. She would find Shasta nice, then turn around and be unkind to her. I wish she would just have picked one side. I did like how she tried to defend Shasta with her other friends, however I sometimes found that she did this just to proof something.

Shasta, I am still not sure what to think of her. I don't tend to like characters who brag and brag and brag. And then also try to take revenge for something that another character did. I also didn't get why she didn't take her medicine. They are there to help you, why would you not take them?

The other girls were just horrendous. None of them (not even Abby's long best friend) was really particularly nice or interesting. They were all a bit too 1-dimensional.

The art was at times just ugly. Sometimes it looked good, but at other times I was wondering if the artist was even taking this stuff seriously or just liked drawing ugly human beings.

The title is nice, but I think another title would have been better. The chiggers don't take that much of a spotlight, so it felt a bit weird they get such a big part of the book (I think the title is a very important part to a book).

All in all, I am disappointed. I will give the book 2 stars. For the cover (which is pretty decent) and for the summer campish stuff. I would not really recommend this book.

This is a trimmed down version of my review, to view the full review visit The Book Ramble.

Abby's at summer camp, and while she was looking forward to it she's not having a good time. Her friend, Rose, is ignoring her. Her cabin mates are mean, and her new bunk mate, Shasta, is weird. Shasta was struck by lightning and now weird things are happening around her. While Abby likes her she has a hard time avoiding the judgmental talk her cabin mates are making about Shasta. Can they really become friends? Even with all the tension between them?

I liked this but it was certainly not my favourite graphic novel. I liked the art, which was cute and clean. I found the story a little confusing though. I don't think it was what I was expecting. I liked the relationship between Teal and Abby though, because it was super cute.

The plot revolves around Abby and Shasta's friendship. Shasta is something of a mystery, with supernatural things always happening around her. It was unexplained and just developed out of nowhere after a really long just sort of normal, contemporary story. I found it really out of place when the supernatural stuff started to happen. It just didn't fit to me and made reading the book a little grating because I just got really confused.

The art was good. Maybe not my favourite, but still good. The characters were all a little too similar looking which made identifying the characters a little difficult. Abby and one of her friends are basically identical. Shasta and the other cabin mate are nearly identical as well. This made reading the book kind of difficult for me because the already confusing book just became even more confusing.

Overall though, this book was a bit of a letdown to me. I liked it, but it was not what I was expecting at all.

This was a very interesting story that I feel is quite relatable to most teens. While a very feminine based storyline, Chiggers provides insights to friendship issues that cross both gender boundaries. I found the relationship between the two main characters to be both hilarious and tragic at the same time. I greatly enjoy pieces like this that allow people to dissect not only why but how we develop as individuals.

I felt very disappointed (did I spell that wrong) by the ending and feel like I didn't really get the story.

Kids at camp. I really liked that no one was all bad or all good. The protagonist could be a little shit with the best of them, but she also had a conscience and worked through some things. The girls surrounding her were also alternately nice and mean. Just like real life.
