Reading the meta-review of the book and the publishing process by Nabokov himself made me appreciate the book more, by acknowledging that it's a tough topic and unpleasant characters and crazy language... He said something about his primary goal in writing is to get the novel out of his head and done and away from him so it doesn't haunt him.

“Lolita, light of my life, fire of my loins. My sin, my soul. Lo-lee-ta: the tip of the tongue taking a trip of three steps down the palate to tap, at three, on the teeth. Lo. Lee. Ta.”

I think it’s important to start this review by emphasizing that enjoying a book is largely up to interpretation. We are all entitled to our separate opinions. The poor decisions of characters may be perceived as stupidity by some and a representation of humanity’s imperfections by others.

With this in mind, I think I should also elaborate upon what Lolita is not. Foremost, Lolita is NOT a love story. Nor is Lolita an erotic. In fact, Lolita is as erotic as Speak is pornographic. I think these interpretations of Lolita offer sympathy to the protagonist. Which is something that should not be done. Because he is a pedophile.

This was just a hard and easy read throughout. Super uncomfortable and disgusting behavior of a person, but has a beautifully written story of loving someone with a passion though the counterparts are not equals in age. The narrator is a horrible person, but had a way with words for something he adores and loves entirely and would do anything. This book was just something else and it made me confused on something so horrible to read on, but just the way with words keep you going.
