I decided to read this after watching Dahmer on Netflix, I seemingly found a need to just know more background.

The show did well to include a lot of what Lionel recalls in this book, but the book itself seems to be more of an explanation from Lionel’s side about the possibilities of how his own son ended up being one of the worlds most notorious killers, and his own personal questions and journey through it all.

What stopped this being a 5 star for me, was that it seemed to wrap up too quickly. Jeff died, and then the book ended. Lionel, who had been so thorough throughout the book about every recollection from years ago, seemed to gloss over possibly the most life altering moment - when his son died.
He spent the whole time talking about Jeff through the eyes of a father, acknowledging the terrible things but still being his son nonetheless but the death itself was very briefly glossed over and then the book just ended?

I watched the series and Netflix and had to have this book just because. I believe it is a really eye opening story to other parents for warning signs and things to look out for. I really appreciate how Lionel didn’t point fingers and claimed his own responsibility in his own way of how Jeff turned out.
