This little book brought me so much comfort and taught me so much during a time when I have been doubting myself as a playwright/theatre artist. I can’t wait to read this again.

This is a really accessible and entertaining academic book, that has a lot of good insights into theater production. I think that this is a must-read for anyone involved in the theatre world, whether as a practitioner or a scholar, or anywhere in between. However, like a lot of academic books, it starts to feel a little repetitive in its analysis, and a bit bogged down in its examples. Towards the end, I found myself skimming more to find the newer ideas, as the repetition of "failure" became, ironically, a bit boring.

Tannahill gets some interesting concepts out here, but it’s such a tiny book that I can’t give it the full 5-star treatment. I enjoyed and learned from it, but it left me wanting more. I felt like 75% of this book was just him quoting his cooler, more articulate friends, and I don’t know how I feel about that.
