Set in 1826 London, a former slave, now housemaid, relates her account of life with the Benham’s after she is accused of their murder. An interesting look at slavery on both sides of the Atlantic and the treatment of those who supposedly found freedom in England. An engaging and interesting read.

Brilliant read from start to finish, the author has a great grip on the time period and creates believable and interesting characters. Can't ask for much more!

This book was good, but the middle drags and feels so slow. It takes a long time for the events leading to the murder to finally start happening. But, I enjoyed the plot and the perspective.
