I have no words for the ending of this book.  Glad I did the tandem read with Tower of Dawn.  How could I wait that much longer to read Kingdom of Ash?

The presence of spice is honestly the only reason this one wasn't five stars like the previous book.  I actually liked this one a lot more overall, except for that.  Up to this point the books had been free of any on-page spice scenes, but this one brings them back.  Definitely more brief than what I've seen in the ACOTAR books (at least the ones I've read), but still a bit disappointing.  (I have the chapters noted in the content warnings section.)

It was hard at first to do a tandem read. But I'm really happy I did. I wish I had annotated previous books. So much came together in this story. I cried twice. I was surprised how much I was attached to the characters. The emotional trauma they experienced gave me all the feels. I don't know if I am mentally prepared for the final book but I have to know how it all ends. This is romantasy but the world and fantasy part is really amazing.

I think this one might be my favorite book in the series so far. I tend to like SJM's side characters more than the main, and that might be due to the feeling of her FMC having a bit of a Katniss/the girl in Divergent vibe. I don't love that the "magical 16 yr old" is the answer to the end of the world and what not. BUT I will say I like Aelin a whole lot more than I like Feyre. 
I liked that this book while being really long, it had a lot of plot and different storylines. I loved getting to see more of Manon, she's definitely one of my favorite characters. Also loved Lysandra's developing storyline. In true SJM fashion the ending chapter were a whirlwind, 
so much so that I cried at the last page. I love Rowan and seeing his devotion, loyalty, care and all emotions really got me in this one.
