The last chapter when Tessa sadly and quietly falls to her illness still haunts me nearly two days after finishing this book; A dark, gritty look into the reality of what cancer steals from everyone. I genuinely sobbed, it hit very close to home and even seeped into my dreams. The story of Tessa isn't going to leave me for a long, long while.
Graphic: Cancer, Death, Drug use, and Medical content
Moderate: Grief and Toxic friendship

* reread. Original rating from 2015: 5 stars.
This book has some really questionable/problematic phrasing (“tribe”, asking if someone is “retarted”) but otherwise it’s a realistic portrayal of a sick, depressed and angry teenager. “Now is Good” (or “Before I Die”) was never about the romance for me.
