This is Richard Byrd's account of the earlier part of his career. He describes what led up to his famous crossing of the North Pole in a plane, describes that feat in detail, talks about his famous Atlantic crossing and describes his plans for an Antarctic expedition.

I found it interesting, as I had not really thought about what used to go into flying in those days. At times, there was a bit too much detail about flying and navigation for my liking.
