To sum it up short, this is Sherlock Holmes for kids, with speaking animals.

I did enjoy this book, especially Dr. Catson, who is a very funny, wonderful character. She is witty and sceptical, yet just like a normal cat, she loves her naps and dinners. A fun combination.
I have to admit, that although I am a dog lover, I didn't get a connection with Sherlock Bones himself. He seems aloft and strange. But then, this might be the intention, since the original Sherlock Holmes is like that. Still, for a kids book I'd have tried to make him more realistic.

The case is close to the original. I can't remember every detail of the orginal, but then you don't need that for this book, it's a complete story for itself, and does make sense. The end comes a little bit as a surprise, I for my part would have loved to get a clearer description at the end. Still, it did all work out, so maybe that's enough.

All in all, it's a fun read in between for adults, and a great detective story for all children. Especially when they like animals.

I received an Early Review Edition of this book from the publisher for a review.
