2.5 stars, I guess.
Not as good as I expected it to be but makes me want to read 'Rebecca' once again.

If I wasn’t such a huge fan of “Rebecca” I wouldn’t have been able to finish this novel.

I was impatient for something, anything to happen. Such a fun idea to make a modern meta version of this classic mystery novel. But, sadly the execution of this story dragged. Lots of “Rebecca parallels” that at first were fun. However, they didn’t push the plot forward, just around in circles.

And I didn’t like the main character, “the fiction writer” which was a big flaw in my being engaged by the plot.

DNF 14% 1 hr 22 min into audiobook. Clueless frustrating main character, pacing doesn't feel right, writing doesn't flow...

Looking for a book with dead first wives, accusations of plagiarism, and so much Rebecca-inspired drama it'll make your head spin? The Fiction Writer by Jillian Cantor has all of the above!
It is a great thriller, with a creepy atmosphere and so many lingering questions. I just want to say that if you do not like gothic-inspired stories, this is not going to be your vibe. If cliffsides can't count as a character for you, this is also not going to be your vibe. BUT, if you love imagining yourself in a sheer bathrobe, running through a storm at night, obviously this is a perfect pick. You should also either at least know the basic plot of Rebecca, or be ready to read that immediately after this!
If any of this book's weirdly specific traits caught your eye, you should definitely give it a shot! I'd really recommend it if you love retellings of classic Gothic novels like Rebecca and Jane Eyre!

This really fell flat for me. Extremely naïve FMC despite having written a thriller book herself. End was a snooze fest.
