Imagine a Hallmark movie, that’s too spicy for Lifetime. Hudson and Emery were friends all their lives, and then growing up but a wall up between them. Secret pining and a misunderstanding definitely didn’t help the situation any either! Emery went off to college, and then settled in New York, as a vlogger. While Hudson stayed behind in their small town and helped run their families’ farm. If you’re worried, like I was, that her character would be the “stereotypical” internet personality, be worried no more! Hudson sucker punched me (and Emery too I guess) so much sooner than I was expecting! And it wasn’t the first sucker punch either! The Hallmark aspects were SO much fun! I did a whole lot of laughing reading this! Emery and Hudson were playful, and fun. Especially when they finally gave in to each other (and the undeniable pull between them). Hudson sings country music, loves my favorite Halloween movie, AND puts his tree up before December. So obviously, he’s a dream guy. There’s a decent amount of outside forces that the universe keeps tossing their way. And while it causes issues, at the end of the day, neither of them is willing to give up on their love. And that epilogue time jump?! YES thank you!!! This was the perfect read to enjoy for fall!

My Favorite Quotes:
• “I don’t know what happened to you, Hudson. But like I said—I never changed. Maybe you should take a hard look at yourself.”
• “Don’t ‘please’ me. You know I could never say no to you.”
• “I wanted to enjoy the view.”
• “I want us to be friends. Please, stop being mean to me.”
• “I might be an asshole, but I’m still a gentleman.”
• “I wanted to be the most important girl in your life.”
• “It’s me.”
• “Would it help if I told you I’ve imagined you naked many times, and the real thing is far better than what my mind could come up with?”
• “I just want to enjoy the moments, and I want to do with that with you.”
• “I’ve missed you for half a decade. I can’t stop all of a sudden.”
• “You’re far too good to be anyone's secret.”
• “You were always meant to be spoiled, hunny. I’m just happy I get to be the one doing the spoiling.”
• “I can call you a good girl all night if you let me.”
• “I love you. I might say some filthy things in the next hour or two that suggest otherwise, just so you know.”

I thought this was a cute little story, I just didn’t feel very connected to the characters. I definitely found the lack of communication between Emery and Hudson, although I’m sure it was necessary as part of the plot, to be very frustrating. Overall, I liked it enough to keep reading and finish the book, but I wasn’t super involved in the characters or how the story would wrap up.

Book Review

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This story is told in alternating points of view between the two main characters, Emery and Hudson. They grew up together on the berry farm that their parents own jointly, and they became best friends. After graduating from high school, Emery left the berry farm in Virginia to attend college and then live in NYC as a lifestyle vlogger. She has now returned home to spend time on the farm during the busy fall season and to reconnect with her parents. She is also looking forward to reconnecting with the person who had been her best friend- Hudson.

You will enjoy this book if you are a fan of the
best friend to lovers and small town tropes.

Quite a bit of miscommunication interferes with Emery and Hudson getting together. Just talk to each other!!

This book has a cute story and the author easily sucks in readers which makes this book a quick read.

Emery, a YouTuber living in New York, decides to make a trip home to Virginia, where her family co-owns and operates a berry farm with her former best friend, Hudson, and his family. She plans to stay for the holiday season, but her plans shift when she and Hudson reconnect.

Genre: Holiday Romantic Comedy
Age Rating: Adult (18+)
Spice: 2.5/5
My Overall Rating: 3/5

Tropes to expect:
🎃 fall/holiday vibes
🎃 small town vibes
🎃 childhood friends to lovers
🎃 forced proximity
🎃 reconciliation
🎃 he falls first
🎃 funny cast of characters
🎃 HEA

My take: Friends to lovers has never been my favorite rom-com trope, however the relationship between Hudson and Emery was pretty dang adorable. There is a fun prank war and even a puppy involved. Where this story went astray for me was the miscommunication. As with most romances, miscommunication irks me to no end and this is another example of that. I wanted to reach through the screen and shake them... JUST TALK! I also felt that the characters were slightly underdeveloped and needed a bit more "oomph" to really make them relatable and someone to root for.

That said, I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a fun, quick read that will put you in the mood for the holidays. It reads like a spicy Hallmark movie with a sweet HEA ending and who doesn't want that? Bonus points: looks like it is the beginning of a series!

Hudson and Emery are former high school sweethearts. When she returns back home to Virginia from New York City they both realize that they might still have feelings for one another. Following the ups and downs of their rekindled love along with the fall back drop was everything I needed to get in the mood for the season. I would definitely recommend for anyone who likes small town love stories.

Thanks to BookSirens for the opportunity to read and review this ARC for free. I loved this book. Emery and Hudson are adorable. Friends to lovers is my favorite trope (as it mirrors my own love story) and this one did not disappoint. I’m eager to read the next book in this series!!

Fun, flirty Fall read! Emery and Hudson were friends when they were young. Then they weren’t friends for several years and now they’re trying to find each other again. Maybe even more than friends?

Love this story! The chemistry between them is off the charts! They alternate between like, care, support, love, pranks and many misunderstandings. And yet, through it all, I was hoping it would all work out for them.

I even enjoyed the side stories of Grace (Emery’s friend) and Hudson’s parents.

If you’re looking for a book to read while curling up on the couch on a cool, Fall evening while drinking hot chocolate, this is the book for you!
