The fact that someone sold me this book as a lighthearted dark romance. But, overall, the writing was pretty good, from the humor to the darkest parts, the characters' coping mechanism, and showing/implying instead of telling in some parts. I'm not convinced with the change of perspectives toward the end, or how some things were handled, and def could do without two or three kinks off the list, but I'm so gonna read the next book

I’d give this zero stars if I could but considering I managed to power through and finish this fucking thing, I wanted it to count in my reading challenge.

I can’t remember the last time I was so ragey at a book. There wasn’t a single redeeming thing about this story and I was going to go over all the awful shit point by point but I can’t. It’s just too much and I need to put a million light years between me and this complete garbage.

An intense mindfuckery of a ride.

These two put the dangerous sewage chemicals in toxic relationship.

Can't really decide if I liked it or not but it definitely left an impression on me and I'll read the next book in the series.

OMG, what a mind-blowing reading experience! This goes directly into my all time favourites. Thank you, Richard Rider, you deserve ALL the stars (and my money).

Me reading the first 85%: love this fluffy sappy romance/erotica with a bit kinky twist.
Me reading the last 15%: this is fucked-up as fuck! Yes, please! Gimme more!

A huge cliff-hanger at the end of this book, but that's okay, cos I know I've still got five sequels to inhale.

It was wierd and ended on a cliffhanger...and so now I feel like I have to read the rest of the trilogy but this book exhausted me and I don't want to, I'm so tired of these characters tbh

It's rare that I love a character wholly, without having to make any internal apologies for them, but Pip Valentine is one of them. I literally just finished this and don't have words left for a proper review but I will say - read it. However you heard about, whoever recommended it to you, trust them and read it. It made me laugh and cry, it's equal parts heart-wrenching and heart-warming, smut and romance. I have the ebooks, but I'll be buying all three paperbacks as well, because there's something very raw and visceral about this that demands having a tangible copy.

Really enjoyed this book. The blurb and title made me think it would be a gritty prisoner/BDSM story, but it wasn't. It was strangely sweet and tender, for the most part, with lots of Brit references and unexpected laugh out loud moments. The relationship between Lindsay and Vallentine was very abusive- but 'consentual'.I must admit Lindsay slapped Valentine around a bit too much for my liking, I really didn't get why he couldn't see just how fucked up Valentine was by his upbringing. What levelled out the violence was the tenderness that eventually bloomed in their relationship. I liked that Lindsay fell in love against better judgement, and that Valentine always loved him, so there were many gorgeous moments. Lindsays cohorts were annoying as hell and treated pip like crap. The explosive event near the end of the book showed that even those who cast themselves as life's 'victims' have a limit to the abuse they will take. Valentine snapped and did the right thing!(in my opinion) Lindsay needed a wake up call and there was no other way to extracate him from the influence of his scumbag best friends, that's for sure. A good read!

I don't see any Stockholm Syndrome at all. All I see is a fairy princess riling a Bear. Not a fan of insta-love either and excessive feminization of twinks. Dropped.
