After reading book 1, I thought I knew what to expect, but what I expected to read versus what I actually read was way better. This had me gripping onto my Kindle with excitement. I again couldn't put it down and finished it so quickly. Please read the TW as recommended, as some of the content will not be for everyone. I really enjoy dark romance, I read a lot of it, but this is the first series that has felt like it dove deep into darkness. Definitely will be added to my physical copy list.

My first DNF of 2024.

I had notes on this but they've mysteriously disappeared.

The MC owns an auction house that auctions off humans into slavery and is surprised when the LI he buys there is a traumatized individual? Like what does he expect from human trafficking victims? Also knowing this he still runs this business that traffic's humans . Makes zero sense.

The other thing that really bothered me was the seafood poisoning the morning after they had had vigorous sex like nobody in the history of all time has had food poisoning from shellfish and then wanted to have sex of any kind.

Also from the trigger warnings I'd seen that the MC is a survivor of childhood sexual assault and yet refers to the love interest as a kid which was weird (when he wasn't referring to him as a pack or a dog and yet there is no puppy play or age play in this?)

I really loved book 1 (Enzo/Tex) and 3 (Bennito/Harlow) and honestly just read those two and skip this one 100%! The plots arent really connected and you wont be lost or nothing. I actually read book 3 first and then 1. I just.... there's so much wrong with this.
why tf is Gin calling Ash a dog and treating him like a pet after Ash has clearly gone thro a shit ton of abuse? And why manipulate Ash with a sexual agreement to earn freedom Gin could have just given him? Gin's treatment of Ash was basically how anyone else who bought him could have treated him. And then Gin's non stop constant adjustments to their sexual agreement that poor Ash takes sp seriously -- because HIS FUCKING FREEDOM/ LIFE is on the line - is just so fucking cringe to read through and makes me really dislike Gin when i didnt initally want to - he seemed like an ok, caring guy that was just a bit unhinged (in a good way, befitting his mafia character) in the other two books and attentive  when his brothers needed him! I thought he'd be a big softy under all that trauma but nope he's the biggest asshole out of all of them!

I cant see how Gin and Ash's "feelings" for each other could ever grow to be genuine when their beginning is THIS BAD... and I've  read a lot of "bad" relationship beginnings! But this? To paraphase David from Schitts Creek, i have never seen a male lead (Gin) do and say so many wrong things one after the other ..consecutively.. in a row. Like why any of it?
