I think the first book was good, but that the series really hits its stride in this book. Interesting plot, a few twists, and the set up of some elements that I’m sure will be major parts of the next book.

Still a bit more dark than my usual reads, but it never went overly far while still keeping the stakes high and tension in place.

Looking forward to the rest of the series.

This author can do no wrong, especially with this series. I enjoyed this book just as much as the first one. The writing is beautiful, the characters are nuanced and full of turmoil, and I was on the edge of my seat through all the twists and turns that were both unexpected and yet fit the character arcs exactly.

Do I recommend this series? 100%
Do I recommend reading a book with genocide and ethnic cleansing in it right now?
100% I do not.
I cried so hard I gave myself a headache more than once
It was still as amazing as I remember but I need to go stare at a wall in a dark room for an indeterminable amount of time.

This book had a fast paced from the gey go, starting more like a climax, than a beginning. No gentle ease you on hack here. The characters are instantly continuing with everything that happened previously. The stakes are high, lives are in peril and we have no chance to breathe.

Saying that however we do have time with the characters as they adjust to new roles, consider their past actions and decide how to manage their future. We meet new characters, see the overarching plot and mystery develop with some answers and more questions.

A bit of romantic tension for those who enjoy that.
More Magic.
More intrigue.
More plots.

It was a really fun ride, exactly what I needed!
